Early Berthiot Petzval 320mm F4.5 1861

Here a very rare and well made petzval. Berthiot is probably one of the most important lense maker from the XIXth and XXth centuries. But back in the 1860s he was just beginning his journey.

This lens is hand signed “Claude Berthiot , Paris XVIIème arrondissement - 1861” and haven’t any kind of engraving. According to shape and date it was probably a pre - serie lens or a prototype.

Barrel is in beautiful condition and the lens still have its original brass cap. By unscrewing front element you have access to the diaphragm system (rings to change).

Glasses are beautiful and complete.

Super sharp rendering on groundglass and on wetplate !

Covers around 18x14 at infinity. So perfect for 8x10 works!
